Sarah Halmarson (soprano) – The Fairy Godmother
Rising young soprano SARAH HALMARSON has recently performed with the Off Centre Music Salon (American Salon: Syncopated City), Against the Grain Theatre (Kafka/Janáček/Kurtág), Thirteen Strings (Bach Easter Cantatas), and recorded for Analekta with Theatre of Early Music. During the 2011-2012 season, she appeared with the Saskatoon Opera in Purcell’s King Arthur and performed as soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. This season she will make company debuts with FestivalOpéra de Saint-Eustache, Ensemble Arkea, and Opera da Camera.
Other recent engagements include her Manitoba Opera debut as First Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Belinda in Dido and Aeneas with Opera on the Avalon. She has also performed Carmina Burana with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Banff Centre for the Arts, and the Winnipeg Wind Ensemble. A graduate of the University of Manitoba, Ms. Halmarson has received additional training through the University of Toronto, Opera as Theatre Program at the Banff Centre, Centre d’Arts Orford, St. Andrews Opera Workshop, Opera on the Avalon, and the Institut Canadien d’Art Vocal (ICAV).
