Kathrin Welte (mezzo-soprano) – Prince Charming

German-born mezzo-soprano KATHRIN WELTE has been singing for ten years on stages across Canada and internationally. In the 2013/14 season she is looking forward to debuting with the Compagnie Baroque Mont-Royal as Namuel in Il Serptente di Bronzo as well as preparing the role of Prince Charmant for Opera da Camera’s production of Cendrillon. Most recently she has been heard in Le tour du monde en une nuit and Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro (Opera da Camera), Mrs. Nolan in The Medium (Zerf Productions), L’Opinion Publique in Orphée aux Enfers and Katisha in The Mikado (The Montreal West Operatic Society) as well as alto soloist in numerous Bach cantatas with Serenata at St. John’s. Other engagements include Nicklausse in Les contes d’Hoffmann with Opera Brasov in Romania and solo art song recitals in Québec and New Brunswick. A graduate of Mount Allison University, Ms Welte received additional training at McGill University where she received a master’s degree in vocal performance as well as at the prestigious Mozarteum Conservatory’s “Sommerakademie” in Salzburg, Austria and the St. Andrews Opera Workshop. She has been recipient of grants from the New Brunswick Arts Board and has been first prize winner at the NATS competition in Montréal.
