Meagan Zantingh (mezzo-soprano) – Dorothée
MEAGAN ZANTINGH, mezzo-soprano, has steadily been gaining experience both as a recitalist and an Early Music performer, and one of her recent performances was deemed, “unequivocally beautiful” by the Ottawa Citizen. Last fall, she was a semi-finalist in the Froville Baroque Singing Competition in France. As a founding member of Opera da Camera, she has had regular performances in various venues across Montreal and the Eastern Townships for the past year, and she recently sang the role of Cherubino in the company’s inaugural operatic production of Le nozze di Figaro. Meagan has sung with the Thirteen Strings and the Cantata Singers in Ottawa as a soloist for Haydn’s Stabat Mater, and shortly thereafter, she joined the Thirteen Strings again, singing the role of Nireno in Giulio Cesare, directed by Kevin Mallon. 2011 included a concert as alto soloist in Handel’s Dixit Dominus with the Cantata Singers of Ottawa, and a Bach cantata concert, again as alto soloist, as part of the Serenata at St. John’s series in Montreal. She also participated in the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute in Toronto. In 2010, she sang the roles of Nireno and Sesto in the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy mainstage production of Giulio Cesare, and she sang Nireno again with the same company in Toronto that fall. She was proud to be a soloist in the Canadian premiere of David Lang’s The Little Match Girl Passion in December 2010, under the direction of Michael Zaugg in Montreal. Meagan’s previous opera production experience includes the roles of Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare with Opera By Request, Naomi in Ron Beckett’s Ruth with the Arcady Ensemble, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Halifax Summer Opera Workshop, Dorothée in Massenet’s Cendrillon with Opera da Camera, and Sylvane in Lehar’s The Merry Widow with the University of Western Ontario.
